Boston Underground Strength Training is a private strength training facility born out of Waltham, MA just about 9 years ago.
In the beginning...
We originally started training at a playground behind a local restaurant. There was nothing fancy about what we had for equipment, as most of it was homemade. Every Thursday we would load up a friend’s truck and head to the nearby playground, unload the equipment and wait for the kids to come and train. We would train anyone that wanted to train. Rain or Shine. Looking around at the end of every session, we knew we could build this into something bigger and also be able to offer it to anyone willing and wanting to train and learn. Having worked in private, commercial, and sports performance settings, we felt as though we could blend the experiences we’ve had in those settings and provide a unique and high-quality experience for the people. An experience that would provide an atmosphere where people take ownership of what they are doing and learning.

We offer a simple, no-nonsense approach to training in a high-energy environment, focusing on both small and large group training. We keep it simple - our facility is equipped with the essentials and our highly-motivated coaches are here to ensure you make progress each step of the way.

/ Angel Jimenez
Angel Jimenez is the Owner of Boston Underground Strength Training in Waltham, MA. He is a Strength & Conditioning Coach with a high level of care for the clients and athletes he trains within his community. Prior to coaching, Angel served in the United States Marine Corps. during 2003-2007, while also completing one tour in Iraq. He received the Certificate of Commendation in 2006 for his service in Iraq. Additionally, he was granted an Honorable Discharge in 2011, after serving as the Platoon Sergeant while in command of over 70 Marines.
He began his academic work at UMass Lowell within their Bachelors of Science Nursing program. After successfully completing three years within the program, he ultimately decided that the field of Strength & Conditioning was his true passion, and also a field in which he felt he could provide the most positive impact. Angel then transferred to Lasell College and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science, helping to enhance his knowledge in the areas of strength training, physical fitness, and sports performance. Throughout his entire academic career, Angel had also been training clients in both the private and collegiate sectors.
Angel is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), and also a Precision Nutrition Certified Nutrition Coach (Pn1). He has completed Strength & Conditioning internships at the world-renowned Cressey Sports Performance, Northeastern University, and Emmanuel College, while working with a wide variety of athletes in multiple sports (baseball, basketball, hockey, rowing, diving, soccer, and softball) within the youth, high school, collegiate, and professional levels.
In September of 2014, he opened Boston Underground Strength Training to provide a simple and no-nonsense strength training approach with a primary focus on both individual and group adult training, and also sports performance training for athletes. In addition to training the general fitness population at Boston Underground Strength Training, Angel also works with athletes looking to enhance their overall performance. The high school and collegiate-level athletes training at his facility have played field hockey, football, basketball, hockey, and soccer. He has also worked with Muay Thai fighters, triathletes, and marathon runners.
/ Angela Morton
After graduating from James Madison University with a degree in Communications, Angela began working at a health club and re-discovered her passion for fitness. Since then she has been in the fitness industry for almost ten years, a majority of the time spent working in the business and operations end. She started getting into the fitness and coaching side a few years ago, starting with large group fitness. In addition to her Certified Functional Strength Coach certification, she also has a Spinning, Pilates Mat, and Barre certifications.
Angela actually began as a member at Boston Underground Strength Training and immediately fell in love with the culture. Now as part of the team, she loves working with all the members here and seeing how hard they work every day. Besides the gym, she loves watching New Girl reruns on Netflix and spending time with friends.
/ Noelle Boran
Noelle’s interest in fitness started with 15 years of competitive gymnastics. That experience is what inspired her to work in the sports medicine field as an Athletic Trainer. Noelle earned her Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training from Lasell University in 2014. She then realized she wanted to gain experience in the strength and conditioning field so she went on to obtain her Master’s of Science in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention in 2018 from California University of Pennsylvania.
Noelle loves working as a Strength Coach because she is able to help individuals through the process of achieving their fitness goals. Outside of The Underground, Noelle enjoys competing as an amateur boxer and shopping for vintage clothes.
/ Stephanie Switzer
Stephanie graduated in 2012 with a degree in Marketing from Bentley University where she also played Division 2 Field Hockey. Having been an athlete her whole life, she has always had a passion for fitness, as well as helping others change their lives so she decided to become a certified personal trainer through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. Stephanie has trained in commercial gyms, coached athletes at different camps and in private session, and has also worked in an athletic performance facility.
Stephanie’s favorite parts of being a coach are hearing someone say they are free of pain, and also watching someone realize their true potential. Outside of the gym, she’s a big family person and loves spending time with her nieces. She also enjoys watching movies, going to the beach, and organizing!
