ANGEL JIMENEZ

Coach

Angel Jimenez is the Owner of Boston Underground Strength Training in Waltham, MA. He is a Strength & Conditioning Coach with a high level of care for the clients and athletes he trains within his community. Prior to coaching, Angel served in the United States Marine Corps. during  2003-2007, while also completing one tour in Iraq. He received the Certificate of Commendation in 2006 for his service in Iraq. Additionally, he was granted an Honorable Discharge in 2011, after serving as the Platoon Sergeant while in command of over 70 Marines.

He began his academic work at UMass Lowell within their Bachelors of Science Nursing program. After successfully completing three years within the program, he ultimately decided that the field of Strength & Conditioning was his true passion, and also a field in which he felt he could provide the most positive impact. Angel then transferred to Lasell College and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science, helping to enhance his knowledge in the areas of strength training, physical fitness, and sports performance. Throughout his entire academic career, Angel had also been training clients in both the private and collegiate sectors.

Angel is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), and also a Precision Nutrition Certified Nutrition Coach (Pn1). He has completed Strength & Conditioning internships at the world-renowned Cressey Sports Performance, Northeastern University, and Emmanuel College, while working with a wide variety of athletes in multiple sports (baseball, basketball, hockey, rowing, diving, soccer, and softball) within the youth, high school, collegiate, and professional levels.

In September of 2014, he opened Boston Underground Strength Training to provide a simple and no-nonsense strength training approach with a primary focus on both individual and group adult training, and also sports performance training for athletes. In addition to training the general fitness population at Boston Underground Strength Training, Angel also works with athletes looking to enhance their overall performance. The high school and collegiate-level athletes training at his facility have played field hockey, football, basketball, hockey, and soccer. He has also worked with Muay Thai fighters, triathletes, and marathon runners.

ANGELA MORTON

Coach

After graduating from James Madison University with a degree in Communications, Angela moved back to Boston and began her work at a health club. She has since been in the industry for almost ten years, a majority of the time spent in the administration and operations end. When it came to her own fitness, she started working with a personal trainer who introduced her to strength training. Working with trainers gave her a better understanding of the value that came with that coaching and the importance of being taught how to properly strength train. She absorbed everything taught to her and wanted to further explore training and teaching.

Angela began her fitness career teaching group exercise classes. With certifications in both Pilates Mat and Barre, she has taught all different ages, abilities, and body types, most of the time within the same class. The opportunity to teach in a large group training setting has given Angela the understanding that not all bodies are alike and adjustments for styles of learning and abilities do need to be made to ensure the success of an individual - all valuable lessons that she applies to her coaching at Boston Underground Strength Training.

Wanting to become more involved on the personal training side of fitness, Angela became a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Being in a health club offered her the opportunity to continue her work in the fitness industry with a variety of clients with different goals and needs. Seeing that there was a need to further educate herself and her clients in strength training, she decided to further expand her education by becoming a Certified Functional Strength Coach.

Angela first began at Underground as a member, in both semi privates and strength camps. She immediately fell in love with the gym’s mission and culture. The way in which Boston Underground approached training resonated very strongly with Angela and she saw an even greater opportunity to grow as a coach. Now part of the team, she utilizes her unique background in group fitness and strength training to tailor her coaching to each individual‘s learning style and abilities.
